CHEYENNE-- Four employees of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department were recently honored by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC) at a meeting in Seeley Lake, Mont. celebrating the 25th anniversary of the IGBC and grizzly bear recovery efforts.
Game and Fish personnel awarded include bear management officers Mark Bruscino and Brian Debolt, large predator program coordinator Dave Moody and assistant to the director, Larry Kruckenberg.
Bruscino and Debolt each received an award for managerial leadership in the "On the Ground" category. They were recognized as being the intermediaries between local residents and grizzly bear populations. The IGBC noted that their work has been vital to recovery efforts providing alternatives to killing grizzlies and promoting a better understanding with the public of co-existence with grizzlies.
Dave Moody also received an award for managerial leadership in the "Program Leadership" category. He was recognized for his leadership role in preparing Wyoming's grizzly bear management plan. Moody was also commended for his many contributions and collecting monitoring data for the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team.
Larry Kruckenberg was awarded for communications leadership in the "Conceptual/Visionary" category. He was recognized as being one of the prime leaders in the formation and function of the original IGBC information and education sub committee. The IGBC referenced innovative ideas and leadership in ensuring public understanding and appreciation of grizzly bears in the Yellowstone Ecosystem. The IGBC also cited support for IGBC policies and objectives directed at grizzly bear recovery efforts in five ecosystems in the lower-48 states.
The IGBC was assembled in 1983 and was charged with the responsibility of boosting grizzly bear populations in the northern Rocky Mountains. It includes representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey as well as the states of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington.
