DOW Seeks Aspen Community's Help with Bear Education - Mar. 30, 2010
ASPEN, Colo., - Following up on the Aspen area's busiest bear conflict year in recent history, the Colorado Division of Wildlife is looking for members of the public to help educate others about avoiding problems with black bears. The Division of Wildlife has teamed up with the City of Aspen, Aspen Police Department and Pitkin County to form a volunteer Bear Aware team that will work around Aspen and Pitkin County. Volunteers for the team are being recruited from the area.

Another Bear Attack in Aspen - Sep. 10, 2009
Wildlife officers with the Colorado Division of Wildlife are searching for a bear involved in an attack Thursday night in Aspen. A man living in the Meadowood Drive area off Castle Creek on the west side of Aspen was attacked in his home by a bear shortly after 8 p.m.

Bear Activity Increases in the Fall - Oct. 08, 2008
Autumn is when black bears become more active, setting the stage for an increase in bear sightings and possibly encounters. The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) reminds residents and visitors that bears are searching for food to prepare for the denning season, which begins in early to mid-November.

A La Plata County resident has pleaded guilty to harassment of wildlife and has been ordered to pay about $1,000 in fines and court costs. The charge is related to an incident in September 2007 in which two bears were shot and killed north of Bayfield.
